Create a Healthy Fresh Market for our D69 community

The Health and Wellness Work Group meets every other month in the evenings throughout the school year.  If you are interested in joining the committee or receiving regular updates, contact Sarah Rankin, Community Schools Program Director at rankins@skokie69.net  or 847-675-7666 x1092.

H&W Programs include:

After-School Snacks (Edison, Lincoln)
The Greater Chicago Food Depository provides healthy snacks for students enrolled or participating in after-school programs Monday-Thursday.

Breakfast After The Bell  (District-wide)
Breakfast After The Bell is a breakfast program offering late breakfast to students who arrive after the standard school breakfast hours. Students are able to pick up breakfast on their way to class so they are ready to learn.

From the Inside Out/Men in the Making (Lincoln)
In partnership with the YWCA Evanston/North Shore, Village of Skokie Human Services Division, and the Skokie Community Fund, this program addresses critical life skills, healthy self-image and relationships, emotion management, and conflict resolution.

Healthy Snacks (District-wide)
Due to the generosity of the 219 Education Foundation and other donors, students are offered fresh fruit and other healthy snacks throughout the school day.

RefugeeOne (Lincoln)
Through a partnership with RefugeeOne, students who identify as refugees are offered a Social Emotional Learning program.  The goal of each grade-level cohort is to increase students’ self-awareness, self-management, social development, and decision making skills.

SAHELI (District-wide)
In collaboration with the SAHELI study and Northwestern University,  District 69 South Asian parents are offered classes focused on healthy lifestyles.

School-Based Health Clinics  (District-wide)
District 69 provides many school-based health clinics throughout the year in partnership with a variety of community providers.  Clinics include services for dental screening and exams, flu shots, physicals and immunizations, and vision exams and glasses.  For more information about these clinics, please click here 

Student Care Closet (District-wide)
Thanks to partnerships with the 219 Education Foundation, Partnership Financial Credit Union, and other generous donors, each District 69 school has a student Care Closet with basic items  including snacks, deodorant, headphones, underwear, socks, shampoo, conditioner, menstrual products, winter boots, gloves, coats, and snow pants, backpacks, and school supplies.

Substance Abuse Prevention Education (Lincoln)
In partnership with Metropolitan Family Services, the Substance Use Prevention Education administers the Too Good for Drugs curriculum during 6th and 7th grade health classes.
