In February 2016, the Board of Education launched a Master Facility Planning Process that included input from staff, parents, students and community members. The Master Facility Plan was shared with the Board of Education in May 2016, and included a Six-Phase multi-year plan that results in expanded space and modernization of all classrooms. The multi-year plan is expected to take 10+ years to complete. At the June 2016 Board of Education meeting, the Board agreed to move into a design phase for Phases 1 and 2, which included additions to Madison and Edison.

In September 2016, the Board of Education held a Community Information Night to discuss the Master Facility Planning Process, Phases 1 and 2 plans, and financing options. The Board launched Phase 1 in Spring 2017. Phase 1 resulted in an addition of 5 classrooms and a playground at Madison School, District professional development space, 2 additional classrooms, a new front entrance, and a gym at Edison.

In August 2017, the Board of Education again held a Community Information Night to discuss the Master Facility Planning Process and Phase 2. The Board launched Phase 2 in January 2018. Phase 2 included a driveway extension at Madison, a cafeteria addition to Edison, renovation of existing interior spaces, renovation of the learning commons (former library) and a new playground.

Under the original Master Facility Plan, Phase 3 focused primarily on Madison School. Work at Lincoln was slated for Phase 6, slated for several years after Madison. At the start of the 2018-19 school year, the Board engaged stakeholders to revisit the Master Facility Plan priorities. Parents and staff met with the architects to provide feedback and input. The Facilities and Finance committee reviewed that feedback and recommended that the Board consider re-prioritizing the phases. The full Board heard a report at the October 16, 2018 BOE meeting, and supported the recommendation to address the facility needs of Lincoln next. The meeting summary is below.

The architects, administration, Facilities and Finance committee, and construction managers worked throughout the fall and early winter to develop design options that address the priority areas. Four design options were presented to the Board at the January 31, 2019 Committee of the Whole (COW) meeting. Additionally, the Board reviewed financing options at this meeting. A summary of that meeting is below.

On March 19th, the Board of Education received an updated report on the design plans, and on April 2nd the District hosted an opportunity for families to provide input on this design concept. Both presentations are listed below.

On September 10, 2019, the Board of Education hosted a Town Hall meeting to review the design plans and financing for the construction of a new, state-of-the-art junior high school. On April 14, 2020, the Board voted to award construction contracts to the recommended vendors and assign the contracts to the Board’s construction manager Nicholas and Associates, Inc. Construction will commence the week of April 20, 2020. The building is expected to be completed in time for the start of the 2021-22 school year. The current building will remain in use for the 2020-21 school year, and is slated for demolition in Summer 2021.
